SITE ACCESSIBILITY
Accessibility and comfortable reading
Available adaptations, how to use display controls and how to report a reading or navigation difficulty.
Updated
Design aim and statement scope
The aim is to help readers with different needs reach content, read it and navigate between sources. The design target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA. An independent accessibility audit and comprehensive assistive-technology testing have not been completed. This page describes adaptations and limitations, rather than certifying full conformance.
Basic reading and navigation
- A skip-to-content link, structured headings and ordinary navigation links.
- Labels for search and filter fields and visible keyboard focus.
- Alternative text for images and captions with source attribution.
- Right-to-left Hebrew and left-to-right English and Russian.
- Content and basic links remain available without JavaScript; optional display tools require it.
Using the accessibility tools
Open the accessibility tools with the round floating button in the screen corner, or with the accessibility link in the site header. The button remains available while scrolling and opens a compact settings panel. You can choose text sizes from 100% to 150%, increase line spacing, enable high contrast, underline links and reduce motion. These tools adjust presentation; they do not replace a screen reader, browser settings or accessibility fixes in the content itself.
Ordinary browser zoom remains available. The operating system preference for reduced motion continues to apply when the site option is off. Use Tab to move between controls, and Enter or Space to activate the accessibility button. Escape or the close button closes the tools and returns focus to the round button when focus was inside the tools. The panel also closes when keyboard focus moves into the page outside it, without trapping navigation.
Remembering and resetting
By default, choices apply only to the current page. To carry them to later pages and visits, explicitly enable remembering in your browser. Revoking remember removes the stored value. Delete and reset also restores the default display. Reading does not require storing preferences.
Limitations and external sources
Linked PDFs and publisher pages are outside our control and may offer different accessibility. A research card provides explanation and bibliography; it is not a complete accessible version of every external document. Mobile layouts, reading order, high zoom and screen-reader operation require practical testing. No untested browser or assistive technology is listed here as verified.
Encountering a difficulty?
Email [email protected], the contact address for Jonathan Santo, and identify your enquiry as an accessibility issue. The contact page is also linked from the site map and footer.
- The page address and language used.
- What you tried to do and what prevented completion.
- Device, browser and assistive technology, where relevant.
- Your preferred way to communicate; no medical diagnosis or sensitive information is needed.
Specific information helps reproduce the difficulty and assess a repair or another way to access the information. Display controls form part of continuing improvements, without a fixed response deadline or a promise of an already verified solution.
If the browser blocks saving or deletion, the tool shows a message and adjustments can remain temporary on the current page. When deletion fails, clear the site data in your browser settings; do not assume the record was removed until the action succeeds.
